EMTALA
VII. Key Issues: Regulation & Reform >> B. Health Care Regulation >> Health Facilities Regulation >> EMTALA
The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) requires certain health facilities to provide emergency care to patients regardless of ability to pay. The Duke Center for Health Policy has developed a draft working paper assessing the benefits and costs of EMTALA (pdf). Another excellent resource is EMTALA.com (a service of Garan Lucow Miller, P.C.), which provides a) statute text; b) regulations; c) court cases; and d) other links related to EMTALA.
